Omni: Banned Books | 9th Grade | 2024-2025 | Period 1 | CYP
|
This discussion based course will focus on the themes found in the books, evaluating their literary value through honest and open discussion. Some themes found in these books include but are not limited to representations of sexuality/gender, criticisms on state power, prejudice and state power, religion, and mental illness. The goal of this class is to bring a critical eye to literature and what society says about these topics, as as well as discover what the Bible has to say thus finding for ourselves where we stand. This is an open-ended, fluid course that has no “right answers,” whose sole purpose is to develop and deepen curiosity.

This is different from your ordinary Art class! Once upon a time, students were immersed in the world of art through sketching and drawing. This is done by looking at old and new fairy tale creatures, seeing how their image represents who they are as a character, and then drawing the character. Creativity and imagination are the main goals of this class. At the end of the course, students will sketch their own character and come up with a backstory. Mediums used for this class will be pencil, charcoal, and colored paper. This is a spring semester class. Registration is for one semester. Price is for one semester.
